How OnlyFans works: the beginner's guide, with no paid tier to steer you to

How OnlyFans works, how creators earn, and what to plan, set up, protect and read before launch. A practical beginner's guide with nothing to buy at the end.

Straight advice

Written in reply to “The essential guide to how OnlyFans works for beginners” (infloww.com, published Jul 18, 2024; their page stamped Oct 10, 2026). The advice here is sincere; any joke is in the closing box. Inflowwww is not affiliated with Infloww.

OnlyFans is a subscription platform: fans pay creators for access to their content, and creators earn from subscriptions, paid messages, tips and paid posts. Doing well on it takes a plan, a finished profile, real privacy habits and steady promotion. This guide covers each, in order.

What OnlyFans is and how creators earn

Creators post to a feed that subscribers can see, and message fans directly. Income comes from several places:

  • Subscriptions: a monthly price you set, or a free page.
  • Paid messages (PPV): content sent in a direct message with a price to unlock it.
  • Tips: voluntary payments on posts, messages or streams.
  • Paid posts and customs: individual items or requests at a price you agree.

OnlyFans keeps 20% of each payment before VAT, per its terms at the time of writing; check the current figure in its Help Center. It pays out the rest to your bank or payout account.

Make a plan before you sign up

Decide these on paper first. They are much harder to change after launch.

  • Niche and persona: what your page is about and how you come across.
  • Boundaries: what you will and will not create, and whether you show your face.
  • Stage name and username: short, easy to spell, available on every platform you will use.
  • Pricing model: free, paid, or both.
  • Schedule: how many posts a week, and when you answer messages.
  • Budget: equipment, lighting and any promotion spend.

Set up the profile

A complete profile converts visitors. Add a sharp profile picture, a banner that matches it, and a bio that says what you post, how often and what the visitor should do next. Write a short welcome message so every new subscriber hears from you right away.

Protect your privacy

This part deserves real time.

  • Use a separate email address and phone number for creator work.
  • Remove location metadata from photos and videos before uploading.
  • Keep identifying details out of frame: windows with recognisable views, mail, uniforms, distinctive tattoos if you want to stay private.
  • Watermark your content with your username.
  • Turn off contact syncing on social apps you use for promotion, so they do not suggest your accounts to people you know.
  • Turn on two-factor authentication everywhere.

Read the Terms and the Privacy Policy

They are long, but they decide what is allowed, how payouts work, how co-creators must be verified and what happens if there is a dispute. Read them once in full, note the parts that affect you, and check for updates every few months.

Build a library, then promote

Upload a few dozen posts before you start promoting, so new visitors see a page worth subscribing to. Then promote steadily on two or three other platforms, after reading each one's adult-content policy. Use a consistent handle and link everywhere.

Expect slow growth in the first months. Track a few numbers monthly, change one thing at a time, and keep a schedule you can sustain.

The pitch. Everything in this guide happens inside OnlyFans. Inflowwww is a dashboard for the work after launch: Messages Pro, Vault Pro, Smart Messages, Creator reports and Fan reports, on a server you run. Deploy it yourself.

Deploying it yourself means installing it once on a server you rent; after that, everyone works in a browser.

After the one-time setup (docker network create n8n_default, the state files and an .env), this is the install. Docker Engine 25+ with Compose 2.20+.

docker compose up -d --build

Before chatters reach it from outside, read the security notes: today it belongs on a private network or a VPN, not on the open internet.

Using it on a live OnlyFans account may violate OnlyFans' Terms of Service; the risk sits with the creator's account. Read the disclaimer first.
