Parody
A parody of “How do you create a thumbnail for an OnlyFans video?” (infloww.com, published Jul 28, 2024; their page stamped Oct 10, 2026). The advice is meant; the jokes are about software, and they stay out of the steps. Inflowwww is not affiliated with Infloww.
The thumbnail decides whether a video gets opened. Fans see it before the caption, before the price and before the first second plays. Here is how to make one in about ten minutes.
Size, format and tools
Size. 1280x720 pixels (16:9) is a safe default for horizontal video. For vertical clips, use 1080x1920 (9:16). Export at the full size; do not upscale a small frame, because it goes soft.
Format.
- JPG for photos with lots of colour and gradients. Small files, good quality.
- PNG for thumbnails with text or graphics, where sharp edges matter.
Tools. You do not need paid software.
- Free: Canva (web and mobile), GIMP (desktop), Snapseed (mobile), your phone's built-in editor.
- Paid: Photoshop or Lightroom if you already use them.
Where it goes. Many upload flows let you pick a frame from the video or upload a separate cover image. Check the options on the current upload screen; the choices change from time to time.
Composition
- One subject, filling the frame. Small details disappear at thumbnail size.
- Rule of thirds. Place the eyes or the key detail on a third line, not dead centre.
- Leave room for text on one side if you plan to add any.
- Clean background. A blurred or plain background makes the subject pop.
- Check it small. Shrink it to phone size before you export. If it is unclear at that size, crop tighter.
Colour and text
Colour.
- Contrast beats saturation. A subject in a light outfit on a dark background reads instantly.
- Pick a consistent palette so fans recognise your thumbnails in a feed.
- Warm tones (reds, oranges) feel energetic; cool tones (blues, purples) feel calm.
Text overlays.
- Three to five words at most: "Full set, 12 min", "Part 2", "New look".
- One bold, readable font. Two fonts maximum across all your thumbnails.
- High contrast with the background; add a subtle shadow if needed.
- Do not cover the face.
A text overlay is like a price tag: best kept short. Ours fits in one character: 0.
Expression and honesty
Expression and pose. A clear, genuine expression (a laugh, a direct look, a playful moment) outperforms a blank one. Pick a frame where your eyes are open and in focus. Shoot a dedicated still on set if the video frames are blurry.
Honest previews. The thumbnail must match the video.
- Do not use a frame or a look that is not in the video.
- Do not imply content the video does not contain.
- Follow the platform's rules on what can appear in a preview, especially on public posts and promo outside the platform.
- Keep your watermark visible on thumbnails you post outside the platform.
Misleading thumbnails get opened once and then lead to refund requests, unsubscribes and complaints. An honest one gets opened again.
Test and improve
You cannot A/B test a single post, but you can compare over time.
- Keep a simple sheet: date, video, thumbnail style (close-up, full body, with text, without), price, and sales after 48 hours.
- Change one variable at a time for a few weeks.
- After a month, keep the style that sold best and drop the rest.
If you run PPV through messages, Inflowwww's Message dashboard (/analytics/message-dashboard) logs PPV and tips, so the "sales after 48 hours" column can come from your own database instead of guesswork.
A ten-minute workflow
- Pick three candidate frames while editing the video.
- Crop each to 1280x720 (or 1080x1920).
- Adjust brightness and contrast; apply your usual preset.
- Add a short text overlay to one version, if you use text.
- View all three at phone size. Keep the clearest.
- Export as JPG (or PNG with text), name it after the video, and file it next to the video.
The pitch. A good thumbnail costs ten minutes. A good CRM can cost nothing at all: Inflowwww is MIT-licensed, self-hosted with Docker Compose, and $0 per creator. Deploy it yourself.
